Who?

Axis of Conversation was born in a south Calgary bedroom, but we've since outgrown it. We are not afraid of ghostly noises and the voices of our friends and lovers spun backwards in the middle of the night. Nor are we afraid of Pop. We change as we see fit. And then we change again. We use guitars, drums, bass, kaoss pads, keyboards, children's toys that sound like keyboards, 1980s drum machines, a glockenspiel, a violin, and stolen noises covered in dust.

Recently, Axis of Conversation retreated to a borrowed room. It was a tumultuous time for us: birth, death and car accidents were among what was being dealt with. We spent two months hiding from daylight, and emerged with 'Delusions of Safety'. It could be said that the music contained is both melodic and experimental, and touches pop music both at its core and its boundaries. At times, songs are presented in a conventional language. Elsewhere, stolen voices stir below floating guitars. Dirty drumbreaks reconcile with stringscores. And the voice of a French girl is fondled...

Axis of Conversation is: Chris dela Torre, guitar/vocals/kaoss pad; Eric Estor, bass/vocals;Matthew Doherty, drums; Gerry Dacanay, keys/guitar/vocals; Shelly Groves, violin/keys/vocals; Cheryl Bergen, cello
